Jonathan Steiger (*1997, St. Gallen, CH) is an artist living and working in Amsterdam and Switzerland. Working across film, drawing, and conceptual interventions, his practice explores how places are perceived and represented. His recent project Trachycarpus traces the introduction of the Chinese windmill palm to Europe, linking it to histories of exoticism, tourism, and colonial networks. Through such research-driven works, Steiger reconsiders the relationship between architecture, landscape, and cultural history. He studied Fine Arts at Zurich University of the Arts and in the Studio for Immediate Spaces at Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam. He is a recipient of the Mondriaan Fund Artist Start grant.
